The Paleo Diet Contest is a 31-day contest starting on January 11th and ending on February 11th.
If you are not familiar with the Paleolithic Diet, it is better known as the caveman diet.
How To Eat Paleo In A Nutshell
- Eat Real Food – That includes meat, eggs, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruits, oils (i.e. EVOO, flaxseed). If you can find foods with little to no added ingredients, great. If it’s unpronounceable, don’t eat it. And, if you wanna challenge yourself more, get something that has no ingredients because they’re fresh and natural.
- No Dairy – Basically, if it comes from a cow (minus the fact you may eat cow), don’t eat it. This includes butter, cheese (hard or soft), yogurt of all sorts (i.e. Greek yogurt), milk, cream (coffee drinkers make some changes!).
- No Grains – This includes all breads, rice, pasta, corn (corn is a grain), oatmeal (including steal-cut), and all other gluten-free pseudo-grains. I don’t care if it says whole wheat.
- No Starchy Veggies – This includes potatoes (french fries & chips too), sweet potatoes, pasta, yams, etc.
- No Legumes – This includes ALL beans, lentils, peanuts (peanut butter), garbanzos, etc.
- No Sugars – I don’t care if it’s natural or refined. No sugar! No maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, Splenda, Truvia, Stevia, etc.
- No Alcohol – None of ANY kind. That includes wine.
Only exception to these rules. Products we sell on the ProGrade website or JuicePlus+ website.
Granted, some of the products offered by ProGrade and JuicePlus+ have some sort of sugar, and in most cases I wouldn’t support it. But, if you are going to be taking supplements, I’d rather it be made with good ingredients and a company that stands behind their product.
Paleo Diet Contest RulesAll Boot Camp members can participate, however, if you are extremely competitive, we are doing a $10 buy-in, with the winner taking a large portion of the pot.

The Paleo Diet Contest will be based on two factors.
- Ethics
- Points
You will need to turn in a food log every week on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Except the final week, where you will turn it in on Saturday. And, you will tally your own points. I will simply review them each week to make sure you are scoring fairly.
I will then put your score in a spreadsheet. Please keep track of your own score. I’m human and make mistakes too.
You will be given 7 points each day. Each time you have something that is not on the Paleo Diet, deduct (-1). For instance, if you have oatmeal for breakfast, that’s (-1). However, if you have a cheeseburger with bun, that’s (-2). The cheese equals (-1) and the bun equals (-1).
And, to keep things simple, whether you have 1 piece of cheese, or 20 pieces of cheese, it’s still just (-1). So at that point have-at-it. I’ll simply try to make you puke it.
Our boot camps are so unique and different that many people don’t realize why, or how our boot camps gets them better results then going to your conventional gym.
A few things to keep in mind is that our boot camps can burn anywhere from 400 to 700 calories in about 45 minutes… give or take. It takes some people 60 to 90 minutes at the gym to do that.
The next thing to remember is we work on muscle confusion. Basically, we never do the same workout twice. So, any time you show up, it’s a completely new workout.
In addition, our boot camps are high intensity based. Meaning, you keep your heart rate going at a pretty high level the entire time. That way you get even better results.
Finally, we hold all of our clients accountable, by having them follow our easy and simple nutritional guide. We have 2 types of nutrition. A basic guide that is designed to help you make lifestyle changes, and another that starts burning fat like a furnace.

Workout: Run 1 mile for time 30 Burpees Run 1/2 mile for time (go 1/4 of the way and come back) 30 Burpees Run 1/4 mile for time (go 1/8 of the way and come back) 30 Burpees
You should be spent after this workout… or pretty darn close.

OK, so we live in a day and age where we are constantly on the “go”.
Drop off the kids here. Pick up groceries there. Grab the dry-clean across town. Opps, forgot to get lunch, so going through the drive through.
And, in that entire process, we don’t take the time to actually eat healthy and get an adequate amount of fruits and veggies in our diet.
The most common excuse I get from clients is this: “I don’t have time to eat healthy” Or, “with my schedule, I can’t get enough fruits & veggies in my diet during a full day.”
Again, I still think they are excuses.
At the very least, we should make time for ourselves to be healthy, and that includes eating properly.
The other thing is that if you actually take the time to eat healthy, but don’t get enough variety in your fruits and veggies. This is very common among families.
I hear, “we already eat healthy”. Or, “we get enough in our diet and I take vitamins.”
Now, I’m not saying that you don’t eat healthy and that vitamins are bad.
However, I am saying that a wide variety of fruits and veggies will actually give the majority of the nutrients your body needs to function at it’s fullest capacity.
But we go back to, do you have time to eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies?

Hey Fellow Boot Campers!
So, now that Christmas is creeping on us, I wanted to give everyone an update regarding our closures.
Keep in mind, we are a boutique fitness training facility, not a big box gym. So, I don’t make people work Holidays (including myself) because we have families we like to share with.
I believe spending time with family is very important, even if you are not a fan of the in-laws, or cousin Jim.
With that said, we are closed on Friday December 23rd, Saturday December 24th and Monday, December 26th. As well as Friday December 30th, Saturday December 31st, and Monday January 2nd.
If you feel compelled to workout, I’ll post a Holiday workout for both Christmas and New Years.
